Glacier Safari & Cave Exploration

 

The adventure begins early morning on a four-wheel-drive tour into Reykjavík’s hinterland. We drive through the tunnel of Hvalfjordur to the Borgarfjordur area. Watch for the historical home of the famed Icelandic historian and law speaker Snorri Sturluson, author of Snorra Edda. Along the way you will see the lava waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss.

After a sightseeing stop at the waterfalls we drive up to Surtshellir cave. The cave is among the best known and deepest in Iceland. Surtshellir is mentioned in the Icelandic Book of Settlement (Landnáma), where it says that the cave is named after the giant Surtur and that poets composed verses in his honour and recited them at the mouth of the cave.

After exploring the cave we return to the super trucks and drive to our lunch destination, Húsafell. From Húsafell we turn off the paved road and travel into the gravel desert of Kaldidalur and up to the edge of Langjokull Glacier, where we’ll head out on to the ice. On the glacier you have about an hour’s fun and excitement on board the super trucks, exploring the glacier at a closer range!

 

Our return journey takes us through the Kaldidalur or “Cold Valley” which offers spectacular views of the surrounding glaciers and their imposing landscapes. On clear days three glaciers can be seen from this point including Ók, thought in ancient times to be the home of giants! Our last stop will be at Thingvellir, the most significant historical and geological site in Iceland where in 930 AD the Vikings formed Althingi - the oldest still-existing parliament in the world. In 2004 the site of Thingvellir was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. We then drive directly from Thingvellir to Reykjavik.

 

Please note! Guests are asked to wear good footwear and warm clothes on this tour.

Optional Spa and Shopping trip with a CCP Dev

 

While your EVE crazed other experiences EVE in all its glory at the convention center why not go to the spa and go shopping! If the financial crisis is still in full swing, the ISK will still be half of what it used to be. So shop till you drop and then we will take you to Laugar Health and Spa, a high quality luxury health and spa resort situated in the Laugardalur valley in Reykjavík right next to the convention center. The SoE ticket does not include admission to the spa as this is an optional trip and service. We will however get you a discount and provide the SoE with transportation. Registration to this event will open as soon as Fanfest does at the convention center info desk. Your significant other can sign you up if you so prefer.
